Functional Hallux LimitusThis is problem in which the big toe (hallux) joint has a normal range of motion when the foot is off the ground, but when walking or running (functional), it does not want to move it normal range of motion (limitus). This normally casues no problems at the joint itself, but causes other joints in the foot to move when they should not be moving, usually a collapse of the arch of the foot. This may be painful. The treatment of functional hallux limitus is to use foot orthotics with modifications to encourage the joint to move.
