Jones FractureA Jones fracture is a fracture at metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction that is at the base of the fifth metatarsal on the outside of the foot. By definition, it is located within 1.5 cm distal to tuberosity of that 5th metatarsal base. It is commonly confused with the much more common avulsion fracture that can occur of thestyloid process of the fifth metatarsal base. Sir Robert Jones was first described it in 1902 in an article, “Fractures of the Base of the First Metatarsal Bone by Indirect Violence.” He actually had one of these fractures himself.
